Welcome John

Welcome John, is a France-born Canadian producer, musician and singer-songwriter. After 3 years of being settled in Montreal, working as a composer in a studio along with playing in the psych-rock band, ALIAS, Jean-Baptiste Beltra (aka Welcome John) felt the need to express himself through his own musical roots. As a multi-instrumentalist, he spent the most of his time in the studio writing songs and producing them from scratch. Musically surrounded by naiveness and nostalgia from hip-hop to disco, soul to funk- he decided to release his debut single in 2021, entitled Henrietta. This marked the beginning of an ode to self-reflection, doubt, and affirmation. A missed love affair defined what would be Welcome John’s signature: a strong groove with a gentle and distinctive voice alongside his Wurlitzer 200A, symbol of an era of lost soul prophets such as Bill Withers or Earth Wind and Fire. The pandemic forced him to come back to the basics; a home studio in his living room, a hard drive full of demos and a go-pro. Making reels on Instagram and TikTok gave Welcome John a chance to bring back songs that were buried too soon, share some week-old editing skill and cliché dance moves.
